GreenFinder Champions the Work of the Recycle Warehouse

July 20th, 2007

With the launch this week of the GreenFinder website and its strong commitment to supporting community projects we have chosen to highlight the work of one dedicated group of people who have transformed a scruffy underused building into a thriving business and showcase for recycling and reuse.

Re-using is the best way to recycle and as the saying goes one man’s junk is another man’s treasure. Since January 2006 Warwickshire’s Action 21 has been running the Recycle Warehouse, a second hand goods shop and environmental information point at Princes Drive Recycling Centre in Leamington Spa. The shop sells a wide variety of used household furniture, household goods and items as diverse as sofas, bicycles, TVs and books can be purchased at bargain prices.

Masses of useful things get thrown out every year simply because people don’t need them anymore, but the Recycle Warehouse puts quality second hand items to good use which would otherwise be sent to landfill. People are helping both the environment and the local community by simply using the shop whether they are shopping or donating something they no longer need. Prices are kept low to keep customers coming back and to ensure there are always new, useful and unusual things to browse.

Action 21’s Jenny Sansom commented “The Recycle Warehouse has been the perfect opportunity to do what we believe in; this has involved putting local environmental action into practice. We want people to think globally and act locally on issues like waste and climate change which are critical to the future of our planet. Above all we want to make sure the work we do is of benefit to the local community and improves the quality of life in the District”

To date the Recycle Warehouse has managed to save 87 tonnes of waste from landfill, donated proceeds from the venture to local environmental schemes and last but not least raised many a smile in happy shoppers thrilled with their bargains.
