Music, Butterflies and Coffins

May 17th, 2012

9-10th June is definitely a weekend to visit Sun Rising Natural Burial Ground and Nature Reserve.

Near Lower Tysoe, in South Warwickshire, the burial ground is a beautiful peaceful place, and not just for the environmentally ethical funerals.

The 16 acre site is evolving into a nature reserve, with wildflower meadow and growing woodland, hedgerows and a pond and wetland area, and as such it really is a place of natural tranquillity, a place for reflection and contemplation, open to all.

Over the 2 days we are holding our Summer Open Weekend, when staff will be on hand to answer questions about both the natural burial ground and ethical, affordable, personal funerals. There will be a range of eco-friendly coffins in the Roundhouse and refreshments in the marquee. We are also holding our Summer Nature Watch that weekend, when both amateurs and experts are welcome to come along and help record the growing number of flowers, birds, butterflies and more that make up this developing nature reserve.

On Sunday 9 June at 3 pm internationally renowned violinist Steve Bingham will be giving a recital in the Roundhouse, offering a blend of music from Bach to The Beatles: a perfect accompaniment to a warm summer’s afternoon. All are welcome, with donations going to the Friends of Sun Rising. Bring a picnic, something to sit on, a bottle of wine …
