Walk This Way To Become A Timberland Earthkeeper
March 3rd, 2010Timberland, the brand synonymous with the great outdoors, is passionate about the planet and the wonders of our natural world. Through the Timberland Earthkeepers eco-movement, the company has been raising awareness of the environmental impact that all of us have on the world we love (and the one place we truly cannot live without!).
The Earthkeepers movement is about getting involved: Earthkeepers organise awareness events and assist a community of like-minded individuals united to help preserve and protect our precious planet. Tree Planting is one of the projects that has been launched and so far, 1,000,000 trees in 26 countries have been planted by more than 8,500 volunteers. While the trees flourish, the number of Earthkeepers is growing around the globe. The Timberland Earthkeepers goal is to attract one million people to join in this effort to make our planet a bit more sustainable, and they’re happy to say that they’re well on the way to reaching that figure.
The Timberland Earthkeepers product lines (which originally inspired the Earthkeepers movement) are designed with an eco-friendly ethos. Every Timberland shoe carries a ‘Green Index Rating’ tracing their carbon footprint. Timberland is committed to doing its share for the benefit of the planet, and Earthkeepers is a way for everyone to get involved. They are planting trees (and you are invited to join them), spreading eco-awareness, and inviting you to also cherish the planet, one step at a time.
But this is not the only humanitarian and environmentally friendly commitment for Timberland. As everyone will know, this year there was an humanitarian disaster in Haiti. Prior to the tragedy, Timberland was in the middle of a year-long relationship with Wyclef Jean and the Yele Haiti Foundation. As a part of that partnership, Timberland makes a donation to Yele Haiti for every pair of Earthkeeper Yele Haiti boots that they sell. The original purpose of the partnership was to support reforestation of Haiti. Given the current devastation, they have decided to redirect their efforts to earthquake relief for the citizens of Haiti. Crucially, Timberland’s partnership with Haiti will continue long after the news reports have stopped as there is a programme of working partnership and continuing aid for years to come.
